Classic Car Show Success

For the last 4 years I have been the event director for a classic car show and this years event was held on the 19th of October.
It is a huge job and the committee and I spend most of the year planning and promoting the event an then the day itself starts at 5 am and by the time we clean up it is getting dark so hence thing have been a bit quite on the blogging front.

The car and bike owners, stall holders and viewing public were treated to great music provided by our roving entertainers the Memphis Moovers.

The stall holders all reported that they had a great day with plenty of interest.

This year we expanded the event to include replicas and kit cars and we had a great turn out form the Cobra Club, some drivers travelling from as far away the mid NSW coast, and the GT40 Club where we had 4 of the 7 GT40's in QLD turn up on the day.

We had one man bring along some amazing pedal bikes which you pedal to get going and then they run on the smallest amount of fuel.  Just what we need as we head in to a future of oil descent.

I might have to invest in one of these.  I think it would be the ideal mode of transport for short trips into town.

Overall it was a great day and although vehicle numbers were slightly down on last year we had large numbers of spectators and the ones I spoke to were having a great day out.

Back and Well Rested

I have been absent from this space for quite a while, not because I had nothing to say but because I had no time in which to say it.

Here is some of what I have been up to.

We  have continued with our renovating and one of our outside walls which is on the south side of the house and was in need of some love has now been fixed and painted.  We have also oiled the deck and are getting close to the end of "The List" (See my Side Bar).  Hooray!
The festival and car show that I was planning took over and became all consuming but was held last weekend so I have gained a lot of time back from that.
We had a weekend away camping at the beginning of October (pre car show and festival) where we were able to switch off, and just take some time to breathe.
Work has been sapping all of my brain power as I embark on a new project for my employer.
I has been hot hot hot and getting things done in the garden is exhausting.  I was planting out tomatoes last week at 6am and by 7am I was drenched in sweat and had to retreat inside.  Such is gardening in the sub tropics.
There has also been significant birthdays and reasons to celebrate over the last month including a 40th birthday and the announcement of a pregnancy.

So life has been busy and blogging just did not make the cut when it came to allocating time.
But today is a new day as they say.  In fact today is the first day of 3 weeks holiday for me and my Mum is arriving from NZ today.  She is here for a week and then I am heading back to NZ with her for 10 days to see the rest of my family and do some work on our property over there.

All in all I am looking forward to being back in my bloggers seat and having time to see what you have all been up to.  I fell like I have all these friendships that I have neglected and need to nurture, so I'm off to read some blogs.

Classic Car Show Success

Well it is all over for another year and I have had a chance to relax and reflect following this years event.  I have learnt a lot more about managing an event and about myself as well.  And I am really glad I took two days off following the event because not only did I need the time to unwind, but there were press releases to write and send, certificates of appreciation to make and surveys to send out.

The second annual Kilcoy Classics on Wheels, held on 14 October 2012 proved to be a hit with the motoring enthusiasts and public alike.  There was a turn out of over 100 cars and motorbikes more than double last year’s event.  We hope to grow the number of entrants further each year, although there will be a limit to the number we can manage.  With the beautiful weather the public had the opportunity to get up close and personal with some beautiful old cars and bikes.  The event is a fundraising event run by a team of volunteers that I lead and proceeds from this year’s event will go towards the local chaplaincy.

This year saw a number of clubs come along with large numbers and there was some stiff competition for the “Best Club Participation” trophy.  We are really aiming for the event to be about a fun social day out not a strict show with concourse standards.
One of our judges was our Mayor Graeme Lehmann who has been involved in motor sports for many years.  He and our other judge were kept busy judging the entries.  The public were also encouraged to participate and vote for their favourites.

Planning is already under way for next year’s event where it is hoped there will be over 200 cars.  But until then here are some snaps from the day taken by my best friend Sandra who kindly volunteered on the day.

Busy Times Ahead

This Sunday is the day when it all happens.  The Classic Car Show that I am the Event Direct for, The Kilcoy Classics on Wheels, is on.

I mentioned the car show way back here when we were getting ready to run the first one.  Last year was a great day and was quite successful.  This year will be bigger and better.  We learnt a lot from last year and have made a few changes and had a lot of great responses from car enthusiasts.
So much work has gone into it and before Sunday there is still quite a list of things to do.  So with that in mind I will be taking a small break from blogging and will be back next week to report back on how it all went.
In the meantime here is a photo from my front garden beside the driveway.
