How Are You Keeping Warm?

All across Australia we are experiencing a cold snap with a blast of cold Antartic air pushing up from the south.

We have the fire going and even Jessie thinks in front of it is the best place to be.

It is really windy too and in our old house the wind is finding ways inside making it's presence felt. Our property in New Zealand is in an exposed situation and this weather reminds me how important it will be for us to have lots of wind breaks.  We have planted out about 400 trees already but I expect that number to increase to about 4000 over then next 10 years.

How are you keeping warm at the moment?

  1. That fire place looks pretty good to me... I would love one of those. Luckily I live in a brick house but it's still cold. Regards KathyA, Brisbane

    1. Hope you are nice and warm. The breezes that get in means the heat of the fire is a bit diminished but that is ok.

  2. We are having a icy blast too here in the Barossa Valley in South Australia. Really do envy the very cosy feel of your fire as we only have reverse cycle heating and cooling and it's not the same. We had a daytime temperature of only 9deg.C on Saturday! Stay warm, Heather

  3. Wow what a great effort to plant so many trees, a wind break will make such a difference, trees and shrubs act differently to what you think about the way the wind goes over and around them. Have a look online or talk to a landscaper....it all depends on the height and placement , as to where the wind ends up when it passes over a windbreak planting.

    1. Good point Margaret, when I say trees most are more tall shrubs than trees with trunks and most are natives so hopefully will grow well.

  4. BBBRRRRR its freezing down south where your wind is coming from... but still i slept with the door open, snuggled up with doonas. Little Miss Tilly was under the covers down near my feet (like a hot water bottle). I feel more for the boys in the factory. Its like a big metal ice box out there. It might have been a waste of gas but we turned on the powder coating ovens this morning and opened the doors.
