Why The Lack Of Blogging

So you might have noticed things have been a bit off and on with my blog over the last few months and it is time to fess up.

Yes I have been studying (about 40 hours a week) and working (30 hours a week) plus trying to have some sort of a life and making plans for our move to NZ in early 2017.

On top of this as I mentioned last year Hubby and I have been trying for a baby.  After more than 6 years of trying we went down the IVF path and now we are expecting our first baby in Early October.

The first 3 months have gone relatively smoothly and now as I head into the second trimester the all day nausea has stopped and just a bit of tiredness remains.  Obviously it is still early days and we hope everything will go smoothly.

We are now making plans for the new life that will join us in what I am sure will feel like no time at all.  We are already having some serious conversations about how we want to parent and so far the verdict from the family is that they think we will be quite strict.
We are also thinking about the way we live and how that will impact on our parenting style.

I know there are plenty of parents among my followers so I am sure I will have a solid sounding board and positive suggestions which I look forward to.  I know we will find our own way but there is not harm in getting a variety of ideas from those who have been there before.

Stay tuned for more news.

  6. Congratulations to the both of you I know wanting to be parents for the first time can be a very long road for some and the fact that you both never gave up hope of your dream I'm so happy for you. It is very exciting time and I know that your little one growing up on a property in NZ you will give him or her a wonderful childhood growing veggies, maybe a tyre swing on a big tree....chickens and the like. Make sure you look after yourself and if you need to take twice as long to do your study once day you will still get there...that little baby is so precious and you will need to rest and look after yourself. Your body is working hard for 2 people. I'm so happy for you. Being a mother is amazing, first baby is a huge shock to the system with sleepless nights and exhaustion but we all get through it and they bring you so much joy. I'm so happy for you both. 1. Thanks Kathy that is great advice. We are looking forward to providing a simple childhood for our child. I know the end is is sight with the business as once Uni is over in June the pressure will be off. Hubby is being very helpful doing all the house work except cooking.

  11. As for the parenting, apart from giving it thought, you can't plan it. It just sort of happens when you meet and love your little person. They start off so defenceless that parenting strategies don't really apply. Go with the flow and he/she will teach you. :-)

  13. Awesomeness!! This is great news. Though by the sounds of things, they'll be under 6 months old, when you move. Which will make things a little more challenging. But at least you'll have your family to help settle in, back in NZ.

About parenting, you'll figure your own style out. I'll tell you two things, I wish I'd figured out sooner than I did though. Develop patience (it was not my forte) and don't assume you will have the answers. A lot of things came naturally to me, as a mother, and a lot of stuff didn't. Kids will test you, and so will those observing how you're parenting, lol. If you give yourself permission to evolve into a mother, just like your new person will evolve into being a child, there won't be as much pressure on you to have all the answers yet.

The answers gestate over time. So, although I lacked patience in the beginning, I had to grow it with kids. It was kinder on them, and me. ;)

    1. Thanks Chris. Yes they will be about 3 months old but yes we will have lots of family support. However I figure at that stage they will still be sleeping a lot which will help. Thanks for sharing your experience I hope things just flow as we develop as parents.
