A Book Giveaway - Affluenza

A few years ago I posted this post where I had a bit of a rant on my soap box and I discussed the Book 'Affluenza'.  If you haven't read it and would like to then this is your chance.

Last weekend my friend Sandra and I attended the Life Line book fest in Brisbane and I picked a a copy that looks like it has never been opened let alone read.

So if you would like to go into the draw to win this copy all you have to do is leave a comment about the way that you hate advertising/marketing manipulating us to believe we need unnecessary products in our lives.

For me my most recent infuriation is a new Dettol ad for antibacterial hand wash in schools. Ahhh what happened to good old fashioned soap and water.

I will be drawing the winner at the end of the month so make sure you comment before then.

  1. That book is excellent.... I highlighted a line in the book for my ex when I was with him something along the lines of "your kid doesn't care what BMW you drive"...... Spending time with your kid is what's it's about not buying a second hand bmw that cost nearly as much as my first house cost....he never got it and is still the ex.

  2. Oh, yes please. One of my most used phrases to my two Aspie men is "you know you are being sucked in by advertising, dont you"? This week Tom insisted on having a Pizza Hut Pizza that had a Dorito crust. How disgusting! He has a deal that he can have one take-away a week, which is not bad for an almost 18 year old. So i got it and it looked shocking. My home-made pizza is so much better. They are very susceptible to suggestion and so i have banned all junk mail from the house but i cant stop the pop up adverts on You Tube. Arghhhh

  3. I think I could do with a copy of this Fiona! Personally I really dislike ads for anything (think something big like a car) which try to grab you with the line ..... now at ONLY $38,000 ... or something along those lines. Only? a 5 digit sum for a car? Not for this bunny anyhow. cheers Wendy

  4. oh I have been hearing about that book, and would love to read it. thank you for offering it as a give-away Fiona. Sometimes I find myself humming an ad and think that must have crept under my skin somehow. Very clever, those advertisers.
